Art in the news: John Dies at the End being made into a movie next year.

Not too long ago, the teaser trailer for a movie based off my favorite book "John Dies at the End" was released. The part psycological thriller, part mystery, part comedy, part romance, part drug trip has been in the making for a few years and its exciting to see what they have done with the adaption. From the teaser, they look like they kept true to the novel in terms of scenery and character descriptions, One can only hope that they don't skip out on any of the parts that might offend a few people (punting kittens, penis doorknobs, racist demons, and of course the mansion scenes). It will also be interesting to see how they tie all the events in the book together.

Movie Review: Ju-On

Foreign horror movies can lose their meaning when their translated and the story is lost or perhaps the imagery is lost on Western audiences, but even I have too wonder why they had a basketball Granny ghost as an antagonist for a ghost movie. Made by the man who made "Ringu", Ju-On is pretty much what you would expect from a Jap horror film, creepy little kids who scream at people for some reason, thats pretty much the main aspect of the film but replace it with said basket ball Granny (AKA Hoops the Ghost)
Theres a certain sort of charm I guess from seeing some old lady scream at school girls and cake delivery guys with a basketball.

Movie Review: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

I hav'nt really seen any "bad" movies recently, but I did find a really well made movie considering how little people have seen it,
The Behind the Mask is a fairly modern horror movie that pays homage to old slasher flicks like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13.
How the film plays out is interesting too, instead of being all done cinematically, its done more as a documentry.

Countdown to Halloween: Day 5 Movie Review

So today I thought I'd do something a bit different. Instead of another bad movie, I will instead reveiw a movie that I always remember watching around Halloween, and maybe you have too. This Cartoon Network special is based around the Ray Bradbury story of the same name, maybe its the nostalgia filter talking but this is probably one of greatest Halloween movies that captures the true spirit of the holiday.

Countdown to Halloween: Day 2 Hide and Seek

Looking for something to do this Halloween? Ever heard of the game "One Man Hide and Seek"? OMHS is a Japenese ritual that involves putting a spirits soul into the doll, so think Ouiji board but with those old toys gathering dust in your basement.

There are a few things you need to do this
-Red string
-Rice (uncooked)
-A doll (duh)
-A knife
-Salt

First empty out the doll of its stuffing, replace said stuffing with the rice, this represents a persons insides. Next everyone participating must put a fingernail into the doll. Next sew up the doll with the string, this represents a persons veins.
Now give the doll a name (not yours). Before anything else, figure out a hiding space place a cup of saltwater in the room. Next fill your bathtub till its full and leave the doll in it. Now wait until its 3am, turn off all the lights in the house and all electronics. Yell from another you (your name) is it three times. Go back to the tub and stab the doll 3 times and say "(dolls name) is it!" Take the doll out of the tub and leave the knife by its side.
Now go to your hiding spot and see what happens.....

Countdown to Halloween: Day 1 Art in the News : The Body Farms

I desided to the week leading up to Halloween I would do some blog posts that would fit with the holiday, and since Lawler said Science is Art I give you the the Amazing Body Farm. Now whats a Body Farm? A Body Farm is a relativley new technique that forensic scientists are using to determine how old a body is by keeping notes on how long the body has been laying out and how the effects of rotting do to the body. The Farms also give out tours of the area, so if you ever need something to do this Halloween...

Not-so Fabulous Friday

Looking for bad movies can lead people into many strange places. Those who have seen enough are generally acustom to the odd sights in said movies. But evey once in a while you will come across a movie that will leave you genuinly disturbed. My fellow bad movie finder and I wewre browsing our selection when I suggested the movie "Megan is Missing". The movie is supposed to be similar to films like the Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity by chronicling the disapearence of two teenage girls Amy and Megan. We expected a really cheesy teen scare movie, and for the most part it was. About an hour in, we were stitches at the movies bad acting and even worse dialouge. But there was something though, during the last 30 minutes of the movie theres a scene even we were disturbed by. Now my friend and I are what some people would call "nightmare fetishits", these are people who love to indulge in the shocking or grotesque, we've laughed at some things that most would be disguted by. But that last scene really got to the both of us to the point there was this dead silence.
Im not going to lie and say that seeing this film will leave you the same way, everyones fears and nightmares vary and maybe this film will leave you with a very "meh" feeling but thats okay. I plan on showing this to my friends on Halloween since I know they get creeped out by these sort've things and to be honest I cant wait to see their reactions.

Art in the news

Have heard of a guy named David Petersen? He is the head author and illustrator of the Eisner winning comic book Mouse Guard. While the books are targeted to younger audiences, it has attracted a much broader audience. I started reading the books awhile ago, but thats not what im going to discuss. Im going to talk about how the illustrator makes and prepares the scenery in his books before putting it down on paper.
He first makes a 3D model out of cardboard and paper and makes it all set to scale and keeps the models for reference for later use. I've never really see this in alot of artists who work on graphic novels and I would like to see more like it.

Fudgie Fridays Movie Review

So its that time again, this weeks movie is Aaah! Zombies!!                                                                                      I first heard about this movie from Chiller (the horror channel). The movie intrigued since its a comedy romance about zombies, so my first thought was "Shaun of the dead rip-off" but I changed my opinion when I saw it was from the point of view of a group of newly infected zombies. The story is, 4 people eat ice cream laced with the zombie virus and become creatures of the night and with the help of an infected soldier, they must now survive in a world full of drunk bowlers, prejudice humans, and mexican food.
It gets sortve slow at some points in the movie and some of the jokes are a bit stale but its still redeeming in its cheese factor

Fabulous Fridays Movie Reviews: Gacy House

Well its that time again, this weeks movie is Gacy House, and all I have to say is "what"? This movie takes its cues from movies like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity, but seems to focus on the boring aspects.
The story revolves around a group of paranormal investigators who go into the beloved Illinois born John Wayne Gacy. The characters are incredibly boring and predictable and you never really catch their names.
Hell most of the times theres nothing ever going on other than them making those O faces every 5 miniutes
The highlight of this film is the climatic ending and the *SPOILER ALERT* The "narmtastic" death scenes

Weird Al's: Alpocaypse

Last July, comedic artist and pop culture icon Weird Al Yankovic released the long awaited album Alpocalypse.
This time around, our hero takes shots at todays icons such as Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and many others too.
The music videos are great and all capture the feel of each song.
Sadly the perform this Way music video (parody of Lady Gagas Born this Way) is not on the CD or itunes, which is a shame.
The songs themselves are good and still capture the timeless charm that makes Al so unique.

Fishy Fridays and a Movie review

Well its that time again, this weeks movie is The incredible Mr.Limpet.
The story takes place during World War II, meanwhile an eccentric librarian named Mr.Limpet goes on about how he wants to help the war effort, but is too scrawny too help.
He then dreams of being a fish and sings to his fish collection in what is possibly the creepiest kids scene ever.

                                                  Seriously just watch it:

Theres alot of other odd stuff too like nazi super-science, cheating on your wife with a fish, and of course Don Knotts in general.

I give it 3 Nazi fish out of 5

Finding bad movies has sort've become a hobby for me and a friend of mine. Our search for the worst of the worst has taken us to many weird places and found many of odd movies.
But every once in awhile I'll find something thats so odd and at sometimes cheesy, you cant help but sit back and smile.
This is one of those movies.
The story is about a man who has taken on the role as the loveable clown, "Bruce Burger".
He often takes this role to an extreme and has frequent hallutionations involving his dead boss, and his puppet sidekick "Peter Pepporoni"
The plot of the story is, the reknown amusment park has come under new managment after the former owners untimely murder.
The movie has many bland cookie cutter 80's characters you have the Jock, the Nerd, the Ditzy Chick, so on and so forth.
But the real showstealer is Bruce.
Contrary to the cover, Bruce is actually a pretty sympathetic character and you soon start to empathize with him as the story proggresses.
An underated Black Comedy now on Instant Netflix, check it out.

My name is Trevor, I enjoy most kinds of art, specifically surrealist art.
Don't ask about the name.
I will try to post daily but i'm pretty sure you've guessed that after seeing the other blogs.
I will talk a bit about certain things I find interesting or exciting.

Im kinda running out of things to say
Oh, I enjoy playing computer games, I guess thats kinda boring though
Seems kinda redundant that we have to talk about our intrests since we already stated it before.
I should probably say something interesting.
Damn I've never realized how boring I am.
